Chapter Philanthropy

Philanthropy is one of the most important aspects of being a West Virginia University Kappa. We are always asking ourselves the question, "How can we help others?" We hold many philanthropic and community service events throughout the year. Some of these events include bouquet making, Pj's and Pancakes, Our Golden Key Luncheon, Kappa Car Wash, Kappa Kornhole, and our annual philanthropy event, Hoops For Hope!

The Kappa girls of Beta Upsilon are passionate advocates of community service. It is one of the most important aspects of our chapter and Greek life at West Virginia University. Our chapter supports three philanthropies. Our national philanthropy, mental health and well being with a specific focus on National Eating Disorder Awareness for the 2024 school year. Our local philanthropy, The Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment fund. Lastly, The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation, which supports active and alumni members. Although charity may just seem like a bunch of hours and dollars, we hold it in a different light. We cherish the time we get to spend having fun while giving back and we look at it as an opportunity to be more than just an average sorority.

Hoops for Hope

Our annual fall philanthropic event, Hoops for Hope, an exciting basketball tournament, supports the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund, created in memory of our former men's basketball coach, Bob Huggins, mother who passed away from colon cancer. The Fund allows West Virginia residents access to important clinical trials! The event consists of an afternoon full of the Fraternities at West Virginia University competing to win it all in the name of cancer research!

Our Greek Communities Philanthropies!

Kappas love participating in the philanthropic events held by the various sororities and fraternities in our Greek system. We have a strong track record in performing well and contributing significantly to organizations that we may otherwise not get to support, such as the United Service Organizations, Make A Wish, Women's Heart Health, Cycle for Life, Service for Sight,  Big Brothers/Big Sister of America, The Alzheimer's Association and so many more!

Other organizations we volunteer with include:

The Ronald McDonald House
